ROVIRA 100: THE FUTURE WAS TODAY

What inspired a group of musicians from Belgium to create the only ensemble around the music of a forgotten Argentine tango composer?

In their newest creation, **THE FUTURE WAS TODAY**, the ensemble SONICO celebrates the centenary of one of the most enigmatic and innovative figures in the history of tango music, Eduardo Rovira. In a captivating staged concert inspired by a 70’s late-night show, SONICO invites the audience to (re)discover the quiet genius of this unjustly forgotten tango-composer who gave himself completely to his art, without seeking fame or money, just for the pure love of music and its limitless possibilities.

Rovira’s 100th birthday coincides with the 10th anniversary of SONICO. To commemorate this milestone the group will embark in April 2025 on a tour of Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile. This journey will culminate in the recording of their fifth album, **ROVIRA 100**, featuring the recovery of Rovira’s most emblematic records: Sonico (1969) and Que lo Paren (1975).

Following the South American tour, **ROVIRA 100** will be presented with a unique concert experience entitled **THE FUTURE WAS TODAY** that will incorporate anecdotes and visuals from their journey documented as a “road movie.”

Premiere on November 20, 2025, at the Strombeek Cultural Center in Grimbergen, Belgium.
